Cloud and infrastructure

Windows Server and cloud migration, before the deadline.

Windows Server 2016 leaves extended support on 12 January 2027, and paid security updates for Windows Server 2012 end on 13 October 2026. We move the workloads, not just the virtual machines, in fixed-price 30-day sprints.

What is an infrastructure migration?

An infrastructure migration moves servers, operating systems and platform software, such as Windows Server, Linux, SharePoint and Exchange, from unsupported versions or ageing hardware to supported platforms, either in the cloud or in your own facilities. The work includes the applications, data, backups, identity, monitoring and network rules that depend on each server, not just the virtual machine.

The most common trigger is an end-of-support date. After it, the vendor stops shipping security fixes unless you pay for extended updates, and auditors, insurers and customers start asking questions.

Infrastructure moves that fit in 30 days

Illustrative examples. A sprint typically covers a group of related servers or one platform service.

Windows Server 2012 or 2016 workloads

Applications, data and scheduled tasks moved to Windows Server 2025 or a managed cloud service, with identity, backups, patching and monitoring in place before the old servers are switched off.

RHEL 7 and CentOS 7

Linux workloads moved to a supported release such as RHEL 9 or 10, or Ubuntu LTS, with configuration captured as code.

SharePoint Server to SharePoint Online

Sites, libraries, permissions and workflows moved to Microsoft 365, or to SharePoint Server Subscription Edition if you need to stay on-premise.

Exchange on-premise to Exchange Online

Mailboxes, connectors and mail flow moved, with security baselines applied on day one.

A data centre exit wave

A defined group of servers moved to an Australian cloud region, with costs, network and security reviewed before cutover.

Your platform, your choice

We do not resell cloud, so we recommend what suits your workloads and budget.

  • Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud in Australian regions
  • Your own data centre or co-location facility
  • Managed services where they cost less to run
  • Running costs estimated before you commit

When does Windows Server 2016 support end?

Extended support for Windows Server 2016 ends on 12 January 2027. After that date, security updates require a paid Extended Security Updates arrangement where Microsoft offers one.

Do we have to move to the cloud?

No. A supported operating system in your own data centre is a valid outcome. We compare staying, rehosting and moving to managed services on cost, risk and effort, and you choose.

Will our data stay in Australia?

Yes, by default. We use Australian regions of the major cloud providers or your own facilities, and document where every workload and backup lives.

What about applications that only run on old Windows?

We test them early. Many run on current Windows Server with little change. Those that do not are isolated, wrapped or rebuilt, which we can scope as a separate sprint.
